Thunder News Flash – November 19, 2022

Students and staff are busy working on this year’s musical – Wrapping All the Way.  This year the musical will be in person, in our school gym.  We will have a 1pm and 7pm performance on Thursday, December 15th for families.  We look forward to seeing many of you at this Christmas Concert.

It is that time again.  If you have a sibling who will be entering our school next year, please email the office at office@stjameselementary.ca for a sibling package that will be sent home.

We are excited to offer a special performance of the Christmas Musical this year for the Seniors of our 4 parishes and grandparents of the students in the school.  We will be offering a light lunch at 12:00, followed by a performance of Wrapping All the Way at 1pm.  We are looking forward to welcoming our treasured seniors from our community to help us celebrate the Advent season.  This special lunch and performance is open to SENIORS ONLY.  Please RSVP by calling the school office at 604-852-1788 or email the office at office@stjameselementary.ca by December 2nd.  No late RSVP’s will be accepted as we will be ordering the food based on the RSVP numbers.  Doors open at 11:45. Shopfunds Gift Card Fundraiser due November 21: 

Our current fundraiser, ShopFunds Gift Cards, is underway.  This is a wonderful way to support St. James & St. Ann’s School while shopping AND with no extra cost to you! 

• You pay face value for the gift cards!
• Many different participating retailers:  grocery stores, entertainment options, gas stations and so many more!
• For each gift card purchased, retailers offer a 3-10% kickback to our school.
• Many ways you can use gift cards: purchase them to use at your favourite grocery store, purchase them for the retailers you plan to buy Christmas gifts from or use them as your gifts!

More information, including an online order link, click https://forms.gle/SyNSUfB2PyopE85a9 , and list of participating merchants was emailed home earlier.  Please complete the order form with method of payment (Direct Debit or Cheque payable to St. James & St. Ann’s School) by 3pm Monday, November 21.  Gift Cards will be ready at the school sometime between November 29 and December 2.

Please remember that there are a lot of moving vehicles in the parking lot.  For safety, please be sure that you walk beside your children as they cross the parking lot.  Children are still learning important parking lot safety rules and they need your example right beside them.  As well, this will help prevent unfortunate accidents that could happen if children are moving in a space where cars are also moving.  Thank you in advance for your assistance with this.

A very special thank you to Nicola Humphreys and all of the many volunteers that make up the PFA.  With their leadership and your support, our first Movie Night of the year raised over $2700!  Thank you to everyone who helped make this evening a success!  We are hoping to host another Family Movie Night in 2023.  We hope you can join us for our next Movie Night!

We are happy to return to in person parent-teacher interviews on Nov. 24th.  An online sign-up link has been mailed out to parents.  If you did not receive the link, please contact the office.  This is an opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher to discuss your child’s progress thus far.  Interviews are 15 minutes.  Please be on time so that we can accommodate all of the interviews and stay on schedule.  ***This is a parent-teacher interview and students will not attend.  There will also be no school for students on this day. 

Just a reminder that there will be no school on Friday, November 25th.  This is a professional day for staff.
