Thunder News Flash – September 14, 2024

Our school consignment shop has a wide variety of uniform items available at highly affordable prices.  The consignment table will be open at our Back to School BBQ and Meet the Teacher night!  If you are interested in purchasing an item, come to the table by the school office from 5:00-6:00pm on Thursday, Sept 19.  Thank you to the volunteers who keep our uniform consignment items clean, neat and organized throughout the year! 

The safety of our students at St. James and St. Ann’s School is our highest priority.  As such, we would like to remind parents to follow the pickup/drop off procedures as outlined in the Parent Handbook. 

If you are dropping off your children in the morning, please ensure that they are able to get out of the car independently, so that cars can move smoothly and efficiently through this area. If your children need assistance getting out of the car, please park in the parent parking lot.

When picking up students at the end of the day, please remind your child that you will be using the pick up lane and that they need to keep watch for your car. Students will be dismissed at 2:30 and students who are being picked up in the Pick Up Lane will be instructed to wait in the designated area. If your child is not in the waiting area when you pull up to the front of the line in the designated pick up area, parents will be asked to continue to drive through the lane and to either park in the parking lot or to drive around the block to re-enter the pickup lane. Please do not stop and/or leave your car in the pick up lane. We would like traffic in this lane to move efficiently for the benefit of everyone.

If there is a delay in the pick up / drop off lane – please remember there is to be absolutely no passing vehicles in the pick up / drop off lane. We need to work together to ensure that all our children are safe!

The September Work Bee will take place at the school today, September 14th, from 9am-2pm.  You may want to bring gloves for outside work. It would also be greatly appreciated if you could bring any small gardening tools, particularly a rake.  Please also bring a lunch for the mid-day break.  Thank you once again for all of your hard work to keep our school well maintained and beautiful!  

Work Bees are usually scheduled for the second Saturday of each month.  However,  because of the Thanksgiving Day long weekend,  the next work bee is scheduled for Saturday, October 19, 2024.   All remaining Work Bee dates for this year will be uploaded to the School Calendar.  

St. James and St. Ann’s school offers a variety of fun sports and events. The dates of upcoming practices include:

Cross Country 

• Monday, Sept. 16 – 2:40 – 3:30pm
• Tuesday, Sept. 17 – 2:40 – 3:30pm
• Thursday, Sept. 19 – 2:40 – 3:30pm

Soccer

• Monday, Sept. 16 – 2:40 – 4:00pm
• Tuesday, Sept. 17 – 2:40 – 4:00pm
• Thursday, Sept. 19 – 2:40 – 4:00pm

If your child has any allergies or medical concerns, and these were noted on your Registration form, you would have received a Care Plan to complete.  In the case of any anaphylaxis, there would have been a portion of your form that required your doctor to complete and sign.  Please note that these forms should be returned to the school as soon as possible.  The health and safety of your child is our primary concern.

Last week your children brought home two important items to help us with our emergency planning.  The first was a Ziploc bag with a list of the items required to create a personalized “comfort kit” for your child, and the second was their Id. tag to either complete or update.  Please note that these two items were due back to the school on Friday, September 13th.  Please return the completed kit if you have not yet done so.  The comfort kits will then be taken out to our shipping container where we store our emergency supplies, and the Id. tags will be placed in the classroom emergency backpack.  Thank you for helping us ensure that we are prepared in the event of an emergency.

The crested sweatshirts replaced the old school sweater in September 2022. This sweatshirt is a part of the school uniform. Orders will take place now and again in early 2025. Just a reminder that Thunderwear can be worn every Thursday for Thunderwear Thursdays!  The order form to purchase Thunderwear will go home soon.  Please watch for this email.  A fundraising direct debit form was completed with your registration package and is on file with the school bookkeeper.  This is used for payment. 

The monthly Hospital Mass will take place on Sunday, Sept. 22, 2024 at 4:00pm at the Sacred Space in Abbotsford Hospital. Any students wishing to read at the mass, please meet Mrs. Wakely and/or Mrs. Dos Santos at 3:45 at the Sacred Space. This is a wonderful outreach opportunity for our students and their families!
