Thunder News Flash – May 6, 2023

The day of WALKATHON 2023 has come and gone and as always it was a wonderful day for the entire St. James & St. Ann’s community!  It takes a lot of help and support to put on the Walkathon fundraiser and the Parent Fundraising Association would like to thank all the staff, parents and students who shared of their time, talent and treasure to help make this day a success.   

Just a reminder that Pledge Collection Days are all this week: MAY 8-12. Please bring in your Walkathon pledge sheet and money raised on one of those days to be eligible for Walkathon prizes.  Our Prize Raffle Draw will be in early June. On Tuesday, May 30th St. James & St. Ann’s School will be holding our Ready, Set, Learn event, from 6:00 – 7:00pm.  This evening session is for parents whose children are 3 – 5 years of age, who have not yet started school, and of course the 3 – 5 year olds are welcome to join in the fun as well.  If you are planning on attending this fun and interactive event, please click here to email the School Office so that we can plan accordingly.  We hope to see you there! We are collecting used uniform and Thunderwear clothing for the school uniform cupboard – we will be having a toonie and loonie sale in June.  Please bring in your donations into the school office. 

As I am sure you are aware, all volunteers who work with children are required to have a Criminal Record Check completed.  The process has changed this year, and applicants will now be using their BC Services Card as Electronic Identity Verification (EIV).  This service is now available for our parents who require a new Criminal Record Check or for those requiring a re-check.  If you are using the BC Services Card to access the online service for the first time, you will be directed to activate your card by video or in person through Service BC.  Please note that if you choose to activate your card in person, a mobile device is still required (iPhone, iPad, or Android)

If you do not meet the BC Services Card eligibility requirements, you will be redirected to follow the current EIV process through Equifax or to submit your Criminal Record Check through the manual process.

The next Work Bee will take place at the school this Saturday, May 6th from 9:00am to 2:00pm. This is a great way to earn five hours towards your Parent Participation commitment.  Hopefully the weather will be good, so please bring gloves for both indoor and outdoor work, as well as any small cordless garden tools that you have.  We are very grateful for all of your hard work around the school.

1)      St. Ann’s Parish Office Administrator, starting July 1st, 2023 (Training prior to this date)

2)      Administrator/Teacher for St. Ann’s Preschool  starting September 2023
